The first major disaster occurred in 1975, in Igualeja. The fire consumed more than 10,000 hectares between the municipalities of Igualeja and Benahavís.
Nine years later, on 8 September 2021, an arson attack that originated from two different sources destroyed 8,401 hectares. It was impossible to extinguish the fire for a month, and it was finally confirmed to be extinguished on 24 October 2021.
